Young Achiever's Award

The Young Achiever's Award from the eastern region this year is won by Dipankar Barman, a visually challenged Professor of Bapujee College, Barpeta District,Assam. Dipankar is among 5 such individuals chosen amongst the country. He did his schooling from Guwahati Blind School, Basistha and his masters degree in Political Science from Gauhati University and also his LLB from the same University. This award is given by Amway Opportunity Foundation from 2013 onward to recognize the talent of young achievers from the differently abled section of society.

Cyclone Nilofar may hit Gujarat on 31st October:
Gujarat is gearing up to face the cyclone Nilofar that is scheduled to hit its coast on October 31. It is expected to make landfall near Naliya town in Kutch. Therefore hectic disaster management preparations are underway. Sea conditions along the coast of Gujarat will be rough to very rough and light to moderate rains are also expected from October 30 onwards.

Hope almighty save us all from the natural disaster !

Teenager from Vapi wins world's mental math championship
Granth Thakkar,a mathematics wizard from Vapi has been awarded the world's fastest mental calculator. The thirteen year old achieved this feat at the Junior Mental Calculators World Championship 2014 held in Dresden,Germany. He scored 1547 points out of 1600 which is the highest in the competition. Around 40 persons from 18 countries participated in it.

Kailash Satyarthi, from India wins the Nobel Peace Prize

Kailash Satyarthi, along with Pakistani child rights activist Malala Youzsafzai, was jointly awarded the Nobel peace prize of 2014. Satyarthi is an Indian child rights activist from Bhopal. He gave up his career as an electrical engineer over three decades ago to start Bachpan Bachao Andolan, or Save the Childhood Movement. Today, this non-profit organization is leading the movement to eliminate child trafficking and child labour in India.

We congratulate, we appreciate and salute to these two great activists !!

French author gets literature Nobel:
Little known French author,69 year old Patrick Modiano bags the prestigious Nobel Prize for literature,2014. Not known much outside France, Modiano's works have centred around memory,oblivion,identity and guilt. He has won the prize for the art of memory he created.

HMT-the closure of an iconic brand:

HMT a reputed watch brand recently decided to stop its functional operations owing to a loss of over 1500 crores in a span of 20 years. Its operations started 53 years earlier in 1961. At its peak, this watch brand made an annual sales of Rupees 300 crore. From 1994 However it went into losses and never recovered. Hence finally it was shut down.

Mary Kom's Gold Quest:
M.C. Mary Kom of India punched her way to a historic gold medal in the Asian Games. The world number five defeated Zhaina Shekerbekova of Kazakhstan to win her first gold in an Asian Games. Mary was at her magnificent best in the final bout of women's flyweight (48-51 kg) division.
